This weekend was a stark contrast to last weekend; last weekend I felt lonely, restless and I might have cried a couple times, while this weekend was utter perfection. My brother was in town and luckily on Friday night he bought a truck, the purpose of his trip out here. It had taken up most of Thursday and Friday evenings, this search for a new car for him and Saturday was our day to play tourist around my home state.
Saturday we got an early start and drove north to Rocky Mountain National Park. I’ve driven through it once but have yet to hike within the park. We chose Deer Mountain, a relatively easy hike just within the park entrance. The hike was gorgeous but holy altitude. I live at 5400 feet but once I get up around 9,000-10,000 feet and start physically exerting myself, I definitely feel it in my lungs. The huffing and puffing the entire way up was worth the views it afforded, though. Colorado really is a gorgeous place.
After the hike we drove up Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved roads in the US. It’s a windy road with amazing views and NO GUARDRAILS. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned, but I have acrophobia. You know, the irrational fear of heights. The only way I can drive this road is to drive it; I’ve been a passenger before and it…well, it wasn’t pretty. We managed to escape the poor weather on the mountain while hiking but were not so privileged up on the road. We were near the summit, hiking out through the tundra to these rock formations when it started to hail. A huge contrast to the 95 degree weather Boulder was having (I certainly appreciated it, hail in july or not) and I was glad I brought along a sweatshirt. If you ever want to do this drive I would definitely drag along some warm clothing just in case.
The rest of the weekend was pretty low key. I ate some really good meals–Indian food on one of Boulder’s best patios (Sherpa’s) where I ate the only thing I ever eat there, the chicken tikka masala (seriously the best), and then this morning’s brunch with Margot at Tangerine. We indulged in blackberry and passion fruit mimosas, a salmon & caper benedict and (for Margot) ricotta and lemon pancakes with blueberry sauce. As soon as I got home on Sunday I immediately got into my hammock and spent the next four hours reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and napping while the wind blew in a storm we never got aside from some thunderclaps. It was finished off by starting Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. That woman is one sneaky bitch. At first I thought it wasn’t that bad and then I sat down and tried getting back up. It’s all part of my bettering myself for dating myself so I’ll just sleep upstairs on the couch so I don’t have to deal with the stairs.
So you’re probably wondering why I’m going on and on about my weekend with a title that involves winning a free ticket to an event that involves wine. You’re in luck that you’ve reached the part of the post where I talk about the awesomeness that is Club W and their event here in Denver on July 21st and 22nd, UnWined. What is Club W? It is a wine club that delivers wine right to your door, based on what you like. Every month you get to choose 3 bottles (or more!) from 12 different wines from around the world that they select and they differ each month. It’s an AWESOME way to discover new wines (and you don’t have to leave your sofa to find them!). Not sure what you would like? They also make recommendations based on your likes–an option I’d definitely enjoy!
Saturday July 21st and Sunday the 22nd they are hosting a wine tasting event called UnWined here in Denver and I have an extra ticket to give away to my lucky readers!
According to Club W’s site, “At Unwined you will taste wine the same way you drink it; surrounded by friends in a worry-free environment, enjoying beats by Colorado’s top DJ’s and eating delicious fare provided by Denver tastiest food trucks. Add in the interactive games area (ping pong anyone?) and a chance to support a great cause, First Descents, and this epic event is sure to satisfy.”
It sounds awesome, right? So you should enter to win! This ticket will get you into the event on either Saturday night between 7pm-10pm or Sunday, 11am-2pm and you know, wine, food, music and entertainment! To enter you must do at least one of the following, but the more you do the more entries you get.
- You must comment on this post telling me what your favorite wine is! (Because I want to find new wines too, duh.)
- Follow me on Twitter and then let me know in a separate comment.
- “Like” Ashalah on Facebook and let me know in a separate comment.
- Follow Club W on Twitter and “like” them on Facebook and…well, I think you know what to do.
The contest will end on Wednesday at 6:00 pm MST and will be announced later that night after I pick a winner through random.org . You must be in the Denver area to attend (obviously).
Disclaimer: Club W and Turner PR gave me a ticket, as well as one extra ticket for one of my readers, free of charge and my opinions and love of wine are entirely my own.
