Another weekend come and gone. Hell, another month has come and gone. Hard to believe it’s June already but here we are, Monday June 4th.
June is an incredibly busy month for me and I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way. I don’t think I’m spending a single weekend at my apartment; I’ve got wine festivals, parties, a travel blogging conference, a camping trip and a beach vacation to contend with this month. Definitely no complaints here, this is how I prefer my summers, but I’m going to have to seriously schedule some me time or I am going to wear myself out.
This weekend was the start of my hectic June. Saturday morning B came up to go for a beautiful long hike in the woods–an 8 miler to be exact. It’s called the Walker Ranch Loop, up at the top of Flagstaff Mountain, and it’s probably one of the more difficult hikes I’ve done. I love this hike though and decided we had to do it. Of course as soon as we get up there it gets a little cloudy but that didn’t stop us.
It wasn’t until two miles in when the lightening, thunder and crazy sideways blowing rain started that we thought, hmm, maybe we should have checked the weather first. Ever been on top of a mountain during a thunderstorm? Not as much fun as it sounds. We took shelter under a tree for the rain which luckily passed through in five minutes so we weren’t too wet.
Despite the rain it was a gorgeous hike. It wasn’t as difficult as it has been for me in the past, thanks (I think) to all this running I feel a lot stronger. It was a lot of up and down and up some more but the scenery was amazing and I was in good company. And being that its Boulder, I ran into my boss at the five mile mark. So small world. At the end of the trail, standing on top of a ridge in strong winds, the boy told me he wanted me to be his girlfriend. So, you know, that was awesome.
We passed out for a bit after that one and we are both so sore from that adventure. We were back up and running though to go to my friend James’ birthday party, one of B’s friend’s birthday parties and then high tailed it down to Denver for his coworker’s housewarming party. Even with the coffee we grabbed on our way down to Denver, which I drank far later than I like to drink coffee, i was pretty exhausted and passed right out as soon as we got back to his place.
Sunday we were up semi-early to make a tiramisu for a pool party we were going to later in the day. I’ve never made that before and luckily it was easy and it didn’t matter that I was sleeping standing up while beating the egg, sugar, rum and coffee together. It didn’t require that much attention. The pool party itself was really nice; it had been a long time since I’ve been to a pool so it was great to just hang out. Plus there was really awesome food.
We finished the weekend up by watching The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo while in a food coma. Thought the movie was good (what was up with the beginning though? Seriously weird) but not nearly as good as the book, obviously.
It was another fantastic weekend for many reasons and I’m kinda sad it’s over. I’ve got another fun weekend planned though plus a potluck pool party tomorrow to look forward to. So while it’s Monday and I’d rather still be in bed, at least I have a job I don’t mind coming to and lots more fun things planned.
How was your weekend?
