When I lived in New York, I had to practically beg people to come visit me. You would think that it being New York City, with a free place to stay, would be enticing enough. Throw me into the mix and you would have had a great time! I loved showing people around New York but unfortunately, no one ever came to visit me–with the exception of Andy, my friend who lives in New Orleans, and a couple of our other guy friends from Michigan State who would come out practically every year.
Granted, hosting people was hard in my small NYC apartment but we did own the world’s most comfortable couch (I miss napping on that beast daily!) and it was in a prime spot on the Upper East Side. I tried for six years to get my friends from out of town who had never even BEEN to NYC to come visit but when I abandoned ship last August and left NYC for good, I had never once hosted an out of town friend in any of my apartments (Andy always stayed elsewhere with his array of girlfriends).
Now that I’m in Boulder I suddenly find myself receiving FB messages and emails weekly from one friend or another asking when would be best for them to come visit. In fact, tomorrow marks the start of a month or more of people in town nearly every single week/weekend. It doesn’t help that most of my friends are in the Interior Design industry and therefore are all unemployed with a lot of time on their hands. Not that I’m complaining. I love hosting people, especially all my New York City friends who I miss dearly.
Tomorrow a friend from FIT drops into town for a night and a couple days on the tail end of her roadtrip throughout the west. Tuesday a former coworker, one of my closest friends and someone I consider a surrogate older sister, Stephanie, flies in for five sure to be very fun filled days. Shortly after she leaves my bestest Lauren (who gave me the nickname for this here blog) arrives for a couple nights during her move out to San Fransisco. Another coworker of mine is thinking of coming in shortly after that and in keeping with tradition, Andy arrives August 17th for a couple nights before he heads up to a bachelor party for a mutual friend of ours up in Yellowstone.
I’m sure there will be others.
I’m very excited to see my friends, some of whom I haven’t seen in nearly a year and to spend quality time with them. Plus, I get to show them around Boulder and spend a few days actively trying to convince them to move here. It’s also a little nerve-wracking. I haven’t gotten paid yet so my bank account is nonexistant and my credit card bill sky high and I’m pretty sure all these people that are coming into town, despite being unemployed, will want to go out for drinks, for dinners and other such fun that involves me putting down some money. On the opposite end, I’m now working so don’t have the time to show them around as I did when Jen was in town a month ago. I will have days off but I also have to work odd hours and there will be times where they will be on their own for long stretches of time.
All in all, it should be a great month. I’m really excited to see some of my closest friends and catch up over an infinite number of wine bottles. Pretty soon it will be my turn to visit NYC and I cannot wait. I’ve been missing NYC and all my friends a lot lately and a trip out there has been brewing in the back of my head for at least a month now. (OK definitely for longer!) I will probably be staying on my old couch, in my old apartment. A visitor to my old roommate.
If anyone wants to make a donation to get me back there for a long weekend, I wouldn’t object

I do find it odd that you have more friends wanting to visit you in Boulder then you did in NYC – that being said, Boulder does sound incredible! I wish I could see it. Have a great month catching up with your friends!
